ATAP introduces in Pordenone the new Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) buses, supported by the Municipality of Pordenone and funded by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility as part of the national strategic plan for sustainable mobility.
Innovation and Environmental Impact
A total of sixteen new vehicles have been purchased, with six of them already operating on the main urban routes connecting Pordenone with Cordenons, Porcia, Roveredo in Piano, and other strategic areas of the city. These buses are designed to have a very low environmental impact thanks to the use of LNG, a clean fuel that helps reduce harmful emissions. Each bus has a capacity of 96 passengers, with 31 seats and 63 standing places, and is equipped with two spaces for wheelchairs.
Safety and Technology on Board
In addition to energy efficiency, the new vehicles are equipped with advanced technologies such as radar to detect people or obstacles in blind spots, and onboard video surveillance. To combat fare evasion, turnstiles have been installed at the entrance and new ticket validators with QR code readers, allowing passengers to purchase tickets with credit cards.
Fueling and Ticketing Improvements
To support this innovation, ATAP is building a new LNG refueling station exclusively for its vehicles, within the area of the Prasecco street depot. The works are expected to be completed by spring 2025. Additionally, the ticketing system has been renewed: the new QR code tickets are already available at ATAP ticket offices, authorized resellers, and new automatic ticket machines. Passengers still holding old tickets can use them until they run out, but they must manually validate the ticket by marking the date and time of boarding.
